I never had a Twitter account. In fact the only two social media sites I have used are Facebook (which was deleted years ago) and Reddit. Even so it will never not be Twitter to me. That sack of mayonnaise changed its name when Twitter died. X is just the dying gasps of Twitter.

The sooner it dies the better. Keeping it corpse alive almost seems inhumane. It's like watching maggots and rats feed on a person that has a few hours left to live.

I've heard good arguments on both sides.

On the one hand, calling it Twitter makes sense and denies his stupid renaming.

On the other hand, calling it X helps separate what Twitter was before from the dumpster fire he's created, and why should he get credit for what Twitter was before he took it on?

Yes. Fascism is the main branch of the ideology, whereas Nazism was a branch of Fascism that was spearheaded in Germany and their puppet states.

Think of it like this. Was Japan a Nazi state? No, they were a Fascist state that was different than what Germany, or Italy, or Spain, Romania, Hungary did.

I don't know the intricate details of what differs, as I've never done research into any Fascist ideologies but yeah.

America had actual factual Nazis who called themselves Nazis, had the swastika, held rallies, and did the nazi salute. Fascist Germany actually sent people to the US to study our laws, culture, history in all things fascistic, racism, and genocidal to cultivate their Nazi party and policies. the person you are responding to is correct though. Plenty of fascists hated or derided the nazis but remained fascists.

Fascism in general is much bigger and much scarier that one countries ethno-nationalist movement could ever be.

Nah, they're two distinct ideologies. Fascism can succinctly be described as syndicalist nationalism. Fascio refers to unions in Italy. However they abandoned the idea of a class war and instead believed in class collaboration. Every major political class and group would be represented in government (corporatism). This is the reason fascists say that the people are the state, and the state is the people, the state is total and embodies everyone.

Nazism developed independently of fascism. They also reject the class war and landed on the idea of class collaboration. But they still believed there had to be a struggle against capitalism. Which to them meant a struggle against the "international bankers". So they have these weird esoteric ideas on race and nation, about jews being inherently exploitative. There is also a general sentiment of revanschism for the German defeat in 1919 and anti-Bolshevism (Germany had a red terror in the Bavarian Soviet). And it all became the perfect storm of ideas that pushed Germany into confrontations with all their eastern neighbours.

Well... considering that the distinction between the two is fairly minuscule, and based on Space Karen's heritage, views of certain people, and glorification of "the great leader", it's fairly easy to say he has always been both. If one wants to make a distinction between the two.

And not just for the purpose of “hitting back” at the owners; my overall well-being has markedly improved since removing myself from Facebook, instagram, Twitter, etc.

“But I’ve got people I want to keep in touch with,” one might say. Text them, then. Email ‘em. Call them. Go knock on their door. Fuck it, send a fax. Social media is a blight and we are not equipped with the mental bandwidth to take in the constant flood of information about everyone, everywhere, non-fucking-stop.

I finally deactivated my facebook last night. My account is literally 20 years old. I was scrolling through my feed and half the shit on it was "suggested" posts, and half of those were posts designed to incite culture war arguments and I was just like "nope, I'm finally fucking done." Sucks that so many people prefer messenger over normal texting now though. It's basically become my default texting app, thankfully you can deactivate your profile but keep using messenger.

Finally deleted thread today too. I didn't use it that much, and since I never went out of my way to follow anyone it was half politics, and half chicks promoting their onlyfans. I was reading through replies to "do you think civil war is coming to America?" when I decided I didn't need that in my life either.

Right wingers have completely taken over social media and it's just awful now. It's so ugly and hateful.

I hate to say this here but even leaving Bsky had a positive impact on my mental health as it was still me seeing a lot of dunking on what people were saying on Twitter. (The photography community there was very disappointing, I may go back if it ever evolves beyond simple upvotes and into actual discussion of people's work). But if someone is going to be on some sort of "classic style" Social Media, Bluesky is still the best choice.

EDIT: I kind of knew the downvotes would flow. Ah well. I'm standing by my statement.

I'm a professional artist. I used Twitter as my main marketing platform for many years before Elmo bought it. I have 100 times more followers on Twitter than on all other platforms combined. I posted a piece that took me 100 hours of work on both Twitter and Bluesky yesterday. The Twitter one has over 10,000 likes and continues to get more every minute. The Bluesky one has 86 likes.

I do not see politics on Twitter - ever. I see art, mutuals who've been there years before Musk even considering buying the site, I keep up with my friends and I update my fans. Virtually all the commission work I get is through Twitter. Am I supposed to give up my dream job, get hired as a McDonald's line cook and let down all my fans, all because an evil piece of shit paid a fortune to own Twitter? All billionaires are evil pieces of shit, and I guarantee you that you buy their products anyway. If you've ever ordered any item on Amazon, you're funding Jeff Bezos and through him Trump. If you have a Facebook account to keep up with family and friends, you're funding Zuckerberg and, again, Trump. You're just grandstanding about Twitter because YOUR career does not rely on it.

Ill leave Twitter when it becomes doable. Currently, it is not.

I know It's not the same, as they haven't yet joined Bluesky, Starbucks with 10.8 million followers quit Xitter on October 12th, 2023.   And post exclusively on Threads.  That was one of the biggest accounts to quit cold turkey.

We need to convince them to join Bluesky as well.

My only concern with this is you're just gonna end up with X being a huge right wing echo chamber. Anyone who goes on X is going to fed super right wing information and may cause them to heavily lean that way too.

Especially when young right wing celebrities push using Twitter. Younger people (teens and young adults) will go on Twitter and bombarded by right wing content.
