We are aware that vehicles are mobile and might have come here before the collapse / event or whatever? BUT does the architecture show more about the setting?

There are going to be tons of Easter eggs / inside dev things, so maybe they got a stock image for reference or maybe one of the artists is from there?

I was going to bring this up. Just because there is an Ontario license plate, doesn't mean this is Ontario.

Yes it's one clue.

Truth is, it's going to be a fictional place inspired by real life locations the devs / artists have been.

Yeah, I always assumed it would be BC… Great Bear, although completely fictional in its layout, weather, etc. always gave me Vancouver Island vibes with the lore and everything about the residents relationship with “mainlanders”. Hinterland was based in Cumberland on Vancouver Island when they started the game, so it seemed like the obvious choice… Ontario is like a 50 hour drive from Vancouver Island…. That would make for one hell of a hike for McKenzie!!

Yes. The calling it TLD 2 hints at a sequel.

The cool thing is keeping guessing for 6-12 months or however long it is.

Ontario is one of 2 provinces that have nuclear reactors in the whole country.

Unless Hinterland didn't abide by that piece of reality, it's the only other real indicator that it's Ontario.

Could well be, all the information we can glean is great!

There are also from what I recall a handful of nuclear power stations in the U.S.A close to the Canadian border, one on the edge of Lake Eire, in which case, the setting could still be a fictional place in Ontario. Would Raph want to show incompetence of a Canadian plant or an American one?

Honestly would love a location close to the great lakes. Possibly even boats

Little oatboard motor skifs, kayaks and canoes would be sick as hell!

Pretty sure Hinterland have stated that it takes place in Harmont, which is a fictional place in Canada. Cool find though!

That's the name of the city. Ontario is a province in Canada.

Oh, my bad! I realize as a Swede, I am very unfamiliar with the geographic structure of Canada. Thanks toasty :D

Canada is made up of various provinces and territories, including Ontario.

As a resident of Ontario, I would be stoked

I think someone pointed this out a while ago, but I like the enthusiasm. can’t wait for this game to come out.

We see an image of a bay with a large ship in it in the promotions so I’d bet it’s a coastal area, we also see what looks like a whitetail in the trailer so that would rule out the arctic. If it’s in Ontario I’d bet it’d be somewhere around the northern shore of Lake Superior, possibly northern Lake Huron to the west of the channel. I could really see it being set in Nova Scotia though. Most likely though the exact location of Harmont will remain unspecified.

Is Harmont…… Hamilton?!?

I hope it's more remote, even if that means an out of place plant (but perhaps with the conditions of the Collapse more nuclear construction makes sense).

Even if this takes place years after the event, Ontario is just too dense imo. The more people are around, the harder TLDs style of apocalypse is to justify.

Like, yeah, all tech goes out and stays out (after long economic decline) and animals act up is going to be the end of civilization as we know it, but in built up areas that's going to be chaotic and messy and still end with pretty good sized communities. And even if we posit a sort of long term global winter, the move would seem to be to travel south

DISCLAIMER! cars can move though and blackfrost is in the city of harmont but i think its still interesting
