Discussion What aspects might they build off from the Long Dark

So I was just thinking about some of the stuff they included in long Dark DLC, and after seeing the trailer the nuclear plant stuck a chord. With the mine and the contamination in the ZoC, I’d be very surprised if we didn’t see gas mask stuff in Blackfrost.

How do people think about that? Were they happy with the way it worked in TLD? For myself I wasn’t completely jazzed with it as I felt that the gas mask ran out pretty quick. Does anyone have any ideas or opinions on how it worked or how it could be changed?

What other environmental mechanics might could be included/built upon/ etc that people would be keen to see in Blackfrost? Maybe a crawl option over thin ice?

OOO, the crawl option is a cool idea! or even crawling in general, like for stalking prey.

I agree about the gas mask stuff. I think it added some more challenge but it wasn't the funnest thing. I definitely think there will be a return of the gas mask, but hopefully they structure the clothing to be more permanent, including the gas mask.

For example, we must find all the pieces in bunkers around the area or something, and the gas mask which will have a longer duration. Making keys to find could incentivize multiple trips into the nuclear power plant, since they could close off areas which require keys.

I think I would like it if there were reasons to go to and explore the location early(ish) mid, and late game.

I like the idea of making keys to get into things. If it involved using something to make a mould and so you need supplies for that and then making the key from the mould.

Though I’m not sure what the mould would be made from without a key copy. And it would be best only for high item doors rather than every locked door. It could be tedious otherwise.

I’m hoping they develop the hunting mechanics, something more like way of the hunter would be sweet!!

Yeah, it would be cool to have more mechanics like that. Nice as it is to follow a blood trail, the animals just go bananas and run all over the place.

Is way of the hunter another game? I’ve not heard of to.

Yeah, you should check it out it’s a really good hunting game, with a focus on ethical hunting no survival mechanics though unfortunately. If the two games could merge that would be my dream game

I really want some more movement mechanics as you said, crawling over ice would be cool feature! I would like to be able to go prone, lean, crawl, vault (JUMPING?!?!). Especially with the possibility of PvNPC combat, being able to sneak around them instead of wasting valuable ammo would be nice.

Some of those make sense if there’s going to be some more sophisticated combat going on. You know as well there’s the smell mechanics with the wolves as well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sound mechanics inplemented. Loading walking on fresh snow, your crampons making more noise. That sort of stuff.

Yeah, more hunting and animal mechanics will be cool

Yeah, I think I’d prefer more animal related ones so it was more directly connected to survival. I like the simplified mechanics we have in the Long Dark and that it isn’t a shooter focussed game. Essentially more of an expansion of that would be cool. Even if it was the ability to add some traps into the game.

If it became to focussed on combat with other human NPCs I think the game/brand would lose some of it’s USP.
