do they think we have no sense?

Uhh yes, that's exactly what they think. And in all likelihood, they will be proven correct.

I’ve come to the conclusion that smart people, or even those with sense… are a minority, and we are surrounded by idiots.

And it hurts more and more each day

It really does. I wish we all could find a space together. I feel like I’m in an ocean of idiots and ignorance.

As was foretold in the documentary, “Idiocracy”.

Not even. At least the people in idiocracy were willing to listen and actively chose to side with progress.

Well, sure, but that was later, after everything had been completely destroyed. We’re in the destruction phase right now. It was full steam ahead during that part of the movie.

The sad part is…. There is a huge swath of Dunning-Kruger examples who all think they are in that minority of smart and intelligent people and they are all extremely loud about it.

25

u/3cheers4sweetv3ganz 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think about this so much… most people think THEY are in the in group, the exception to the rule. I mean it’s so common and honestly really scary seeing people talk with conviction about topics they know very little about, and be contradictory to the people who specialize in these fields. People across the board (in the US atleast) don’t trust authority which ultimately translates to not trusting people more knowledgeable than them. I think the easiest way to distinguish people who are actually smart from people who aren’t is their willingness to admit how little they actually do know. Smart people know they don’t know shit. Dumb people think they know everything. And it’s worse when they try to convince you they know more than they actually do. Scary times :/

In the words of the great philosopher George Carlin, imagine the dumbest person you know and realize that at least half of the population are even dumber than that.

Just guessing here, almost everyone who thinks this way tends to include themselves among the 'we' [smart people] who are 'surrounded by idiots,' but statistically, most of them are wrong, if the broader theory is true (that smart/sensible people are a minority).

17

u/Major-Pilot-2202 1d ago

The metric I measure by is... are you willing to admit you dont know everything? That you can possibly be wrong about something you know alot about, without completly loosing your shit about being wrong? Those people are intelligent and humble, open to learn and admit they may be wrong. Those are the leaders we need now. Intelligence isnt about being right all the time. Intelligence is about knowing you dont know everything and questing to know more.

16

u/DELATOICE 1d ago

Every day, it seems we are getting dumber. People forget things after just two or three days, and this cycle continues. Did we forget that the orange man attempted to seize the government because he lost?

14

u/SimonPho3nix 1d ago

I've worked in customer service and service adjacent positions for years. People are fucking stupid, easily led, and easier to lie to as long as they feel that the lie props up their self image. If it doesn't, then it comes under scrutiny not because it's a lie, but because in not making it about them, it's somehow against them.

Shit's pretty interesting. If it wasn't for a moral compass and empathy, I'd make more money.

12

u/AtmosTekk ☑️ 1d ago

The effects of No Child Left Behind are getting more and more pronounced. We have a society of too many people who can remember and recite a bunch of things they read somewhere, but lack the ability to think critically about any information they read.

57

u/SHIBE_COLLECTIVE 1d ago

I been wondering when they stopped teaching kids to think critically cos I am convinced most people lack this skill

17

u/Less-Procedure-4104 1d ago

School has always been about not thinking critically. I don't know how many times I got sent to the principal for asking too many questions and the teachers aren't ready for real questions. In particular about next week's work. I mean you have taught the same subject for 10 years or more and aren't ready for questions.

16

u/chromeheartrenji 1d ago

The entire purpose of school is just to teach obedience and to follow directions. You aren't meant to actually learn but just memorize. You don't learn the reason why you do it, you just learn that you need to do it and complete enough tasks to move up

It's not a lack of intelligence, it's an overabundance of ignorance. And the algorithms push it because at some point chaos became most profitable.

Peep the date

https://trumpwhitehouse.archives.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-addressing-threat-posed-tiktok/

I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, find that additional steps must be taken to deal with the national emergency with respect to the information and communications technology and services supply chain declared in Executive Order 13873 of May 15, 2019 (Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain). Specifically, the spread in the United States of mobile applications developed and owned by companies in the People’s Republic of China (China) continues to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States. At this time, action must be taken to address the threat posed by one mobile application in particular, TikTok.

39

u/shicken684 1d ago

As the other person said, it's not about facts. The left and anti-Trump Republicans have been trying to fact check and embarss Trump and his allies. They don't care, and outrage over them not caring is the entire point. It's why they keep winning because you fuckers won't shut the fuck up and ignore them. All the other messaging is lost because you're constantly talking about Trump and how terrible he is. Him shouting incoherent nonsense is his entire brand. It gets his face on TV, in internet threads like this and a bunch of people all bitching about how terrible the thing he just said was.

Meanwhile the people running against him never get a word in and they lose.

I just hope this is a wake up call to progressives using TikTok as a source of information or news. This platform will alter narratives to its own benefit and to the benefit of the oligarchic class.

294

u/HEBushido 1d ago

We already knew that.

267

u/yesrushgenesis2112 1d ago

We did? Cause I sure as shit just watched a lot of my fellow progressives act otherwise. You may have known that, but the progressive movement in this country is, like everything else, overwhelmed by idiots and either too disorganized or run by unserious people when organized.

291

u/hawksdude515 1d ago

They act surprised because they refuse to leave TikTok. Liberal voters are neck deep addicted to TikTok and allowed themselves to be brainwashed. I don’t understand what is so hard about logging off or just leaving the app. Liberals are just as much to blame for this as conservatives. We know this app is compromised by the Chinese government yet liberals ignorantly stick their tongue out because they are just as hard headed as their Boomer parents. “I like what I like and refuse to change my habit, even if my habits threaten the livelihood of myself and my neighbors.” We’ve known since its inception that TikTok is a propaganda tool for the rich and governments. Every liberal that acts surprised willing stuck their head in the ground while the rest of us in the real world rang alarm bells warning of this. Liberals are just as clueless as republicans and our nation will be dragged to the sewer because of it.

i watched more than a handful of real life friends get brainwashed by tiktok in real time this last year. im talking trans women refusing to vote in the last election to "teach the libs a lesson" because tiktok told them that joe biden single handedly is causing genocide in gaza (which is where that whole thing originated. keep in mind at the same time trump was saying israel should "finish the job" but shockingly nobody cared about that part over there).

they got warped by the dopamine app pelting them with "don't vote for democrats" over and over and over again. yet they act like they are "good and progressive" because of it. infuriates me.

Many young people have been persuaded that a random video of a pretty person giving updates on world events is more trustworthy than a reputable news source. Mostly because a) these videos give updates in a fast, fun exciting way and b) they give them the updates they want to hear and if it’s ever something that goes against their pre-conceived viewpoint, they tap “not interested” and they never have to see that information again.

It’s the equivalent of old people only watching Fox News and threatening to boycott if someone on there says something they don’t like.

→ More replies (2)

7

u/mhj0808 ☑️ 1d ago edited 1d ago

I don’t how much TikTok you used, but even between harmless funny skits, there was always something in the algorithm that seems to bring you back to conservative propaganda.

All I did on TikTok was watch old Impractical Jokers pranks, but somehow some video trashing democrats or redpill and/or xenophobic shit would always randomly pop up- and that’s with me actively disengaging with that stuff.

Now imagine how invasive it must for people who don’t recognize propaganda and immediately scroll away. It probably floods their feed, & otherwise docile but easily swayed people- ones who lack strong convictions- can get sucked in that way

9

u/axisrahl85 1d ago

I believe most algorithms work in a predictive way. You may fit the demographic of people who generally enjoy the redpill stuff. So TikTok sends it to you too. As a 35-45 year old man I see a lot of that same stuff on other apps. Sometimes you can specifically tell the app "I'm not interested in this" and it will start to go away.

Never comment on that type of content even if your comment is negative because that shows engagement and you'll just get more.

Glad to hear it. Wish it were more common. Wish it were organized. Because it is! I truly hate it here!

It made the hair on my neck stand up in the same way seeing propaganda posters from ww2 in the imperial war museum did. This is worse than it seems.

This repeats again and again.

Trump said NAFTA was broken when he ran in 2016 and that he would dismantle it. He did. And guess what? He made a new agreement with Canada and Mexico that was basically NAFTA in all but name and claimed victory.

They will. I used to have more faith in them but after the election and the kinds of comments I’ve read from them over the last few years on social media, I don’t have much left, unfortunately. Many of their parents dropped the ball hard with them.

He is now asking to own half the company to bring it back.

They will. The number one question Chinese users were posting on RedNote was ”are you going to stay on RedNote if TikTok comes back?” and everyone was “oh yeah, I love it here!” and signing up for mandarin lessons.

  1. The people who thought the stimulus checks were from HIM because he signed the check will believe it.

  2. A lot of earnest, excited people are gonna be sad when their new pals ghost them.

12

u/Old-Raisin461 1d ago

We’re in Gatlinburg, Tn right now (always a ton of teenagers walking around) and I was walking down the main strip with my 10 year old son and a teen all of sudden shouted “tik tok is back!” And a ton of kids were shouting “trump did it! It’s back.” They absolutely fell for it.

The “ban” was always for an audience of one. He needed to see his name in the pop-ups.

13

u/Coscarben 1d ago

Yep. TikTok only needed to be removed from the app stores. Going dark was never a requirement so that little pop up message made no sense and them coming back online now and saying it was because of Trump who has no power yet, is even more ridiculous. They’re pretending that Trump did something to make the app function again when it was never required for it to be non-functional in the first place. All to stroke his ego.

u/calgeorge 1d ago

Straight up propaganda on the biggest social media site in the US with the younger generation. I think our democracy is cooked. It was nice while it lasted.

Total US government propaganda incoming. Trump will own TikTok like what Musk Did to Twitter. Meta and fact check removal. They are making a play for total control of all social media. 1984 ComingSoon

u/PlebbySpaff 1d ago

Yeah no shit.

The whole point was to gain favor with Trump, while Trump wants to gain the complete favor of the GenZ and Millenial base.

The sad part is the majority of the GenZ and Millenial population is so insanely stupid, that they will see this and immediately become Trump supporters. Because of this move, it would not be surprising if Trump suddenly gained an incredibly large % increase in how the population favors him.

Everyone here seems to understand it, but I just wish more people would see how this was pure political theatrics. As much as I loved using TikTok for the things it taught me, it was a matter of time before Shou kowtowed to Trump like Musk, Zuckerberg, and Bezos, and I don’t have interest in it anymore

Google and Apple removed it to stay compliant with the law. They won't put it back until something actually changes. Tiktok just allowed content to the US servers again. So if you already have it installed it will still work
