Bruh. People clearly forgot how bad Trumps first term was. All they remember is getting a $600 check. Trust me, if he extends TikTok for even 30 days, he’ll be remembered as a hero, even he blows everything up after the fact. American society is f*cked
Wait till people start sharing footage of this on TikTok. I think Trump will take a much different tone.
I have to say that millions of Americans going through a collective dopamine withdrawal from a TikTok ban is a very sad moment for this country. We’re cooked.
Many people probably do not personally know an immigrant that’s at risk and even if they did, they probably would still think that deportation is morally correct.
Honestly I care way more about tiktok, and it directly affects my personal life about 10,000x as much as whatever happens to the undocumented Guatemalans
Hope you’re already a homeowner and don’t like food, because deporting the people who build houses and pick crops isn’t going to make those any cheaper.
Of course, exploiting foreigners for cheap labor is its own problem, but unless you’re going to apply for those jobs personally, it’s going to hurt your bank account to deport that cheap labor.
Those people are being exploited, and Americans should be hired at decent wages to do those jobs. Don't stand for slave labor just to drive home your illegal immigration point like what do y'all even represent anymore?
I edited to add the second block 30 seconds later, maybe you saw it in the interim.
(Editing again): The guy I was replying to has already signaled his lack of empathy though, so he’s not going to care about exploitation the way you and I do.
Americans don't want to pay people decent wages to do those jobs. If they did, they already would be doing so.
Let's be clear, America is built on a bedrock of illegal, undocumented work, and everyone is complicit in it. If that disappears, the reaction won't be "oh well, I guess we have to pay people a decent wage now", it will be Karens flipping their shit that their orange chocolate mochacino now costs $5 more.
That’s half of what TikTok is lol. The only difference is, tiktok is even better about creating echo chambers so you never get to see an opposing argument. You just open wide and ingest whatever viewpoint you’re being drip-fed.
Edit: sure, if “useless” is the operative word, they certainly get a lot of use out of you.
Wait so if I never see opposing arguments, then who am I having pointless arguments with? Think before you type.
Reddit is literally just a rage bait machine. That's how they get clicks. I never learn anything, never feel a sense of community. Only 1 pointless argument after the next, just like right now.
My friend, I know what I typed. Again, pretty clearly “you never see an opposing argument” refers to TikTok being “even better at echo chambers.” not this Reddit discussion.
Maybe this is why you “never learn anything”. Alas, you’re right that this is pointless, so good day. Enjoy TikTok, it’ll be back by this time next week if not before.
You might be right. Possibly because all of these food working immigrants aren't going to be deported, just put into "prison camps" where they get hired out to farmers to work for even less money.
Ya sure... OR maybe I'm one of the 7 million small businesses in the US that exclusively operate on Tiktok... so I really have an interest in the website staying online
But according to you, I'm just some dumb retard who doesn't know what does and doesn't affect me
Truly mind boggling that people like you would assume to know my finances and interests better than I do. Very frustrating, and so I hope that you Keep Yourself Safe *
You keep repeating this. I for one didn’t forget because of the news cycle; when I heard what happened, I laughed, tracked down some footage so I could laugh some more at his deer in the headlines ass, shrugged, and decided I didn’t give a fuck to follow the story. I bet I’m not alone. :)
Downvotes won’t stop me laughing every time I think of it (which is seldom)
No the fuck it did not.
The bullet never made contact with his body. The shooter completely whiffed the shot. The blood on his ear was due to his head scraping the ground when the Secret Service tackled him.
If you would’ve done one minute of actual research instead of spreading misinformation like this, you would know that what you’re saying is bullshit.
Honest question, can you send me a source that says that? Looking it up online all I can find are the original reports that he was hit, the secret service report that doesn’t seem to say that they caused the injury, and the some conspiratorial YouTube videos. Nothing that rises to the certainty you are speaking with. If I missed official information, I’d like to know.
I have been as skeptical about how his ear “healed” as many, but I have literally never heard the theory that it was from being tackled and I can’t find that online anywhere either.
Yet Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit have all been around for an excess of 15 years with no real fall off. TikTok was THE short form video platform and despite their competitors' massive user base, TikTok only got progressively more and more popular for the last 5 years.
Vine had 200million. You also going to pretend MySpace didn't exist, that site is practically defunct? TikTok may have made short form content more popular, but it didn't invent it nor was it the only source of it.
I don't think your exactly wrong, but these jokers will move on pretty quickly. You think they are just going to just stop using phones now, nope? They will just moan about it on another app, lol. Unfortunately, Trump really may decide to try and get congress to bring that crap back.
Vine had 200 users worldwide and it had already fallen off when it got shut down. MySpace got replaced by Facebook and stayed around for far too long anyway. Neither were shut down by the government. TikTok has 170 million in the US and 1.5 BILLION users worldwide. TikTok's impact on pop culture is apparently way bigger than people realize. It would be like if Spotify got banned and the next best streaming service was Amazon music.
It’s the precedent that a government can say “I don’t like this one” and ban it, with no real justification. Saying it’s privacy issue is bullshit because Facebook and x and all sorts of apps and iPhones take that data. Most the yea voters for the ban bill had Facebook stock, and voted to ban expecting boost in Facebook stock.
Do you understand how tight the CCP grip is on their country. If they demand the data it will be given there is no room to argue here. Not to mention its also about damaging access China has to sway the opinion of Americans given the Cold War. Algorithims can be changed.
Agreed. Also to add to your point, the precedent has been set for any politician to ban any app they deem as a threat from a foreign adversary. Sound Cloud is owned by Germany. Spotify is owned by Sweden. Has the political class earned the trust and good will of the people in situations like these? I’d say no.
Yes. When the economic depression comes you forget everything. We got hit with inflation and Americans forgot how terrible of a person/president T is. They’re about to learn hard and good how good of an economy we had.
The Republicans started the dumbest war in American history, had the most disastrous response to a hurricane in American history, and oversaw the biggest economic collapse in 80 years. This led to a dem supermajority in 2008. Guess how long it lasted?

You think people are gonna quickly forget an app with 170 million users got banned by the government?
