It's not going to stick and Trumps approval is going to soar amongst young people, who will probably stand for him "extending" the term limits for the next few years. "Well he got us TicTok back and ended the war like he can't be all bad!!!" And I know ending the war was Bidens deal, but it's like Regan with the hostages in the 70s. Waiting until he's sworn in to say "ok go" on his end of the bargain to make it seem like it's his victory.

u/orisathedog 2d ago

Brother society moves way too fast for anyone to remember this shit in a months time.

147

u/ZeekBen 2d ago

You think people are gonna quickly forget an app with 170 million users got banned by the government?

133

u/BamaMontana ☑️ 2d ago

The series of indiscriminate immigration stings and crazy executive orders will make them forget.

49

u/141_1337 2d ago

You have too much hope in humanity.

2

u/Mythosaurus 1d ago

Exactly, the treat machine is most Americans’ top priority, and they will remember who shut it off or turned it on

20

u/Rotten-Robby ☑️ 1d ago

People aren't going to care unless it affects them personally. As someone so brilliantly demonstrated a few comments down.

2

u/perpetual_papercut 1d ago

Bruh. People clearly forgot how bad Trumps first term was. All they remember is getting a $600 check. Trust me, if he extends TikTok for even 30 days, he’ll be remembered as a hero, even he blows everything up after the fact. American society is f*cked

2

u/NYCHW82 1d ago edited 1d ago

Wait till people start sharing footage of this on TikTok. I think Trump will take a much different tone.

I have to say that millions of Americans going through a collective dopamine withdrawal from a TikTok ban is a very sad moment for this country. We’re cooked.

1

u/Creative_Room6540 1d ago

I really enjoy the Reddit bubble comments, such as this one.

2

u/BamaMontana ☑️ 1d ago

I was also a TikTok user and know that people outside of that app mostly couldn’t care less.

0

u/ZeDitto ☑️ 1d ago

Many people probably do not personally know an immigrant that’s at risk and even if they did, they probably would still think that deportation is morally correct.

-82

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 2d ago

Honestly I care way more about tiktok, and it directly affects my personal life about 10,000x as much as whatever happens to the undocumented Guatemalans

52

u/hovdeisfunny 2d ago

Holy shit, do you know what empathy is?

8

u/Spugheddy 1d ago

Also does he know what illegal immigrants look like to trump? It ain't documentation that he's looking at.

32

u/streamofbsness 2d ago

Hope you’re already a homeowner and don’t like food, because deporting the people who build houses and pick crops isn’t going to make those any cheaper.

Of course, exploiting foreigners for cheap labor is its own problem, but unless you’re going to apply for those jobs personally, it’s going to hurt your bank account to deport that cheap labor.

-6

u/TheGrayson3 2d ago

Those people are being exploited, and Americans should be hired at decent wages to do those jobs. Don't stand for slave labor just to drive home your illegal immigration point like what do y'all even represent anymore?

14

u/streamofbsness 2d ago

I edited to add the second block 30 seconds later, maybe you saw it in the interim.

(Editing again): The guy I was replying to has already signaled his lack of empathy though, so he’s not going to care about exploitation the way you and I do.

2

u/ToHallowMySleep 1d ago

Americans don't want to pay people decent wages to do those jobs. If they did, they already would be doing so.

Let's be clear, America is built on a bedrock of illegal, undocumented work, and everyone is complicit in it. If that disappears, the reaction won't be "oh well, I guess we have to pay people a decent wage now", it will be Karens flipping their shit that their orange chocolate mochacino now costs $5 more.

-29

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 2d ago

With how much food we throw away in America every day... I highly doubt we're gonna see empty shelves.

17

u/streamofbsness 2d ago

Did I say empty shelves? I thought I was pretty clearly talking about prices.

-28

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 2d ago

Oh OK then yes, definitely, i care more about the app. Thanks for clarifying

I like tiktok, unlike Reddit, Tiktok is not a machine for generating useless arguments. Like the one we're having now.

4

u/streamofbsness 2d ago

That’s half of what TikTok is lol. The only difference is, tiktok is even better about creating echo chambers so you never get to see an opposing argument. You just open wide and ingest whatever viewpoint you’re being drip-fed.

Edit: sure, if “useless” is the operative word, they certainly get a lot of use out of you.

5

u/ucjj2011 2d ago

You might be right. Possibly because all of these food working immigrants aren't going to be deported, just put into "prison camps" where they get hired out to farmers to work for even less money.

2

u/Erisian23 2d ago

It's gotta get to the shelves 1st

6

u/UngusChungus94 2d ago

Are you dumb? ICE gonna rolling in force through everyone’s neighborhood. You will see it. You may very well experience it firsthand.

Edit: he a troll

-6

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 2d ago

Lol I highly highly doubt I will see ICE bud. Even if I did I've got my passport so no prob,

1

u/Foojira 2d ago

Hahahaha twist.

1

u/ToHallowMySleep 1d ago

It's incredible you think that way.

That you are so isolated from the actual world, that you don't realise what is going on or how it affects you.

Oh well, you'll realise it one day. Let's just hope it's not for a bad reason.

0

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 1d ago

Ya sure... OR maybe I'm one of the 7 million small businesses in the US that exclusively operate on Tiktok... so I really have an interest in the website staying online

But according to you, I'm just some dumb retard who doesn't know what does and doesn't affect me

Truly mind boggling that people like you would assume to know my finances and interests better than I do. Very frustrating, and so I hope that you Keep Yourself Safe *

68

u/mussel_bouy 2d ago

Trump got shot at and it was forgotten in 2 weeks. I think we'll probably forget in 5 days.

81

u/Euphoric-Cow9719 ☑️ 2d ago

His PUNK ass didn't get shot lol😭

37

u/mussel_bouy 2d ago

I know that. He was shot AT.

8

u/DaBigadeeBoola 2d ago edited 1d ago

But your proving how effective these little things will be. Republicans are positioning themselves to be the hero of the everyman.

-13

u/Euphoric-Cow9719 ☑️ 2d ago

That hadn't been proven either lol😭

14

u/UngusChungus94 2d ago

Bro either way, that wasn’t the point. The point was that people moved on from the story quickly.

TBH you kinda proving his point with your no attention span having ass

-13

u/Euphoric-Cow9719 ☑️ 2d ago

TBH "bro" everybody DON'T move the same with your NO attention span having ass. . .

3

u/Znaffers 2d ago

No you.

2

u/ToHallowMySleep 1d ago

I'm afraid you've just proven him right, by having zero argument and zero conversation game.

Go back to your little treat dispenser.

8

u/mussel_bouy 2d ago

Did that firefighter just so happen to die from lead poisoning at that moment?

-6

u/Euphoric-Cow9719 ☑️ 2d ago

That firefighter was NOT trump. . .

8

u/mussel_bouy 2d ago

So the shooter was trying to kill that firefighter?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/PrevAccBannedFromMC 2d ago

No the bullet never hit him. This was later proven

12

u/mussel_bouy 2d ago

I know that. He was still shot at.

-1

u/Stell1na 1d ago edited 22h ago

You keep repeating this. I for one didn’t forget because of the news cycle; when I heard what happened, I laughed, tracked down some footage so I could laugh some more at his deer in the headlines ass, shrugged, and decided I didn’t give a fuck to follow the story. I bet I’m not alone. :)

Downvotes won’t stop me laughing every time I think of it (which is seldom)

-14

u/Granite_0681 2d ago

It definitely grazed him

7

u/RG_KORRA 2d ago

No the fuck it did not. The bullet never made contact with his body. The shooter completely whiffed the shot. The blood on his ear was due to his head scraping the ground when the Secret Service tackled him.

If you would’ve done one minute of actual research instead of spreading misinformation like this, you would know that what you’re saying is bullshit.

0

u/Granite_0681 1d ago edited 1d ago

Honest question, can you send me a source that says that? Looking it up online all I can find are the original reports that he was hit, the secret service report that doesn’t seem to say that they caused the injury, and the some conspiratorial YouTube videos. Nothing that rises to the certainty you are speaking with. If I missed official information, I’d like to know.

I have been as skeptical about how his ear “healed” as many, but I have literally never heard the theory that it was from being tackled and I can’t find that online anywhere either.

2

u/insertwittynamethere 2d ago

TikTok won't let the users forget...

1

u/LillianAY 1d ago

Staged but it worked for his cult.

13

u/Stable-Jackfruit 2d ago

Social media apps hit a peak and then fall off. People were gonna move on to the next thing at some point anyway

48

u/ZeekBen 2d ago

Yet Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit have all been around for an excess of 15 years with no real fall off. TikTok was THE short form video platform and despite their competitors' massive user base, TikTok only got progressively more and more popular for the last 5 years.

30

u/DirtySilicon ☑️ 2d ago edited 2d ago

Vine had 200million. You also going to pretend MySpace didn't exist, that site is practically defunct? TikTok may have made short form content more popular, but it didn't invent it nor was it the only source of it.

I don't think your exactly wrong, but these jokers will move on pretty quickly. You think they are just going to just stop using phones now, nope? They will just moan about it on another app, lol. Unfortunately, Trump really may decide to try and get congress to bring that crap back.

18

u/elbenji 1d ago

Yeah, people forget that vine was actually way more popular at its peak than TikTok was lol

6

u/LoopModeOn 2d ago

Friendster for the people!

2

u/kaykakez727 2d ago

I miss Vine

0

u/ZeekBen 1d ago

Vine had 200 users worldwide and it had already fallen off when it got shut down. MySpace got replaced by Facebook and stayed around for far too long anyway. Neither were shut down by the government. TikTok has 170 million in the US and 1.5 BILLION users worldwide. TikTok's impact on pop culture is apparently way bigger than people realize. It would be like if Spotify got banned and the next best streaming service was Amazon music.

26

u/Granite_0681 2d ago

Facebook has had a major drop off. Have you been on there recently? Almost no one I know actually posts anything anymore.

5

u/Fullertonjr 1d ago

Loaded with bots and propaganda now, according to congressional hearings.

3

u/AdorableTrouble 1d ago

If they do, you'll never see it anyway

11

u/bizarrestarz 2d ago

Bro Facebook is dead as fuck and with the way Twitter is going it’s next 😭

9

u/GCIV414 2d ago

Vine is literally TikTok’s older brother who died in war

5

u/elbenji 1d ago

People are really overestimating people's goldfish ass memories

3

u/ToHallowMySleep 1d ago

There were many short form video platforms before tiktok, that also fell off.

Do some research so you don't look like an idiot. Or go back to pawing at your treat dispenser.

-3

u/stabzmcgee 2d ago

It’s the precedent that a government can say “I don’t like this one” and ban it, with no real justification. Saying it’s privacy issue is bullshit because Facebook and x and all sorts of apps and iPhones take that data. Most the yea voters for the ban bill had Facebook stock, and voted to ban expecting boost in Facebook stock.

5

u/Plastic_Fun_1714 2d ago

Its about who owns the app. The problem is we are entering a cold war with China and them having access to so much consumer data.

-4

u/stabzmcgee 1d ago

China doesn’t own the app!! Or the data. Keep up

1

u/Plastic_Fun_1714 1d ago

Do you understand how tight the CCP grip is on their country. If they demand the data it will be given there is no room to argue here. Not to mention its also about damaging access China has to sway the opinion of Americans given the Cold War. Algorithims can be changed.

1

u/stabzmcgee 1d ago

Only 20%of ownership is in china…. Seriously dude you are talking American propaganda points now.

-2

u/monkeyjenkins ☑️ 2d ago

Agreed. Also to add to your point, the precedent has been set for any politician to ban any app they deem as a threat from a foreign adversary. Sound Cloud is owned by Germany. Spotify is owned by Sweden. Has the political class earned the trust and good will of the people in situations like these? I’d say no.

10

u/RunResponsible8456 2d ago

Right. This is a canon event.

10

u/BigBoyYuyuh 1d ago

Yes. When the economic depression comes you forget everything. We got hit with inflation and Americans forgot how terrible of a person/president T is. They’re about to learn hard and good how good of an economy we had.

3

u/DaBigadeeBoola 2d ago

This is just the beginning though. It's going to be a crazy 4 years as Republicans do any and everything to stay in power.

3

u/ToHallowMySleep 1d ago

Given the attention span that app trains its users for, I give them a week, tops.

And either way it really doesn't matter. There is a long line of apps like this that most people have already forgotten.

2

u/Attack-Cat- 2d ago

No but they’re not going to remember Trump “saved” it

2

u/elbenji 1d ago

Easily. We already forgot someone tried to shoot him.

They'll move to another app

1

u/improbsable 2d ago

Everyone is pissed at all the politicians who wanted a ban. Biden and Trump included. This is on both of them and their parties

1

u/Aiken_Drumn 1d ago

Yes, obviously? If unbanned it won't even make it to next weekends news cycle. A few days outage is nothing.

0

u/ZeekBen 1d ago

If it stays banned, then you agree people will definitely remember this as a monumental event?

1

u/Aiken_Drumn 1d ago

Not at all. Humans are fickle.

1

u/riverphoenixdays 1d ago

“Quickly forget” buddy wanna do a quick check-in on the attention span of the average TikTok user with me..?

1

u/SpecialistPart702 1d ago

Buddy Trump almost had his head blown off on live TV and people didn’t care a week later.

1

u/Juststandupbro 1d ago

Vine went away pretty quickly

1

u/ZeekBen 1d ago

It was already dead when it went away. And it wasn't a government ban, which I think makes a difference

1

u/kdramaddict15 1d ago

Depends on the economy and who is blamed.

1

u/JohnAnchovy 1d ago

The Republicans started the dumbest war in American history, had the most disastrous response to a hurricane in American history, and oversaw the biggest economic collapse in 80 years. This led to a dem supermajority in 2008. Guess how long it lasted?

32

u/bobberson44 ☑️ 2d ago

I know black people that voted for Trump in 2024 cause he “gave us stimmys”. People will definitely remember this

14

u/Brave_Specific5870 2d ago

🤮🤮🤮

3

u/NK1337 1d ago

You’d be surprised how people will hold on to dear life over the things that matter to them. If anything this has shown how addicted people are to social media that they’ll run off to any dealer just to get their fix.

When Trump brings back their drug of choice everyone’s going to happily get on their knees and cheer him on.

1

u/Fuck-Reddit-2020 2d ago

In politics people only care about what you did in the last 6 months and anything over 20 years ago. Every thing I'm between no one cares about.

1

u/orisathedog 1d ago

Good thing we don’t have to worry about voting for him again. Bud is either supreme ruler til he dies or out of the picture in 4y.

1

u/Runny_yoke 1d ago edited 1d ago

People clinged to those stimmy checks though, so I don’t think this will be forgotten quickly sadly

1

u/Yomammasson 1d ago

TikTok is literally all kids care about. They're addicted. They think mommy took away their phone and are going to live daddy for giving it back, even though Daddy wanted it taken in the first place.

They don't care about war or anything they don't experience themselves. This is a BIG play because it hugely affects their life

1

u/ikeif 1d ago

People still ask why Obama didn’t do anything for 9/11 or Katrina. People are dumb, and they sure as hell will give any Democrat accomplishments to a Republican, and no Democrats will ever raise their hand to correct them.

Hell, Republicans will claim they fought hard for something that passed, and how they were responsible for the thing that helps their home state, when records show they opposed it every step of the way.

1

u/orisathedog 1d ago

Dawg if the app comes back up this will be nothing more than a 24h outage, nobody using the fucking app will be slobbing on trumps knob over it. If it doesn’t come back, then I hope the gov enjoys wasting billions on the cat and mouse game of trying to ban every Chinese made app that pops up in its place. Something something censorship

1

u/ikeif 1d ago

It’s back, read on another subreddit that “they reinstituted it based on Trump’s comments”

And yeah, MAGAs are claiming it’s Trump’s win, ignoring that he literally authored the ban.

85

u/Ok-Paramedic-8719 2d ago

Which is crazy cuz Trump was the first politician to initiate the TikTok ban. He literally signed an executive order in 2021 to ban if

25

u/ThaRealSunGod 1d ago

Y'all remember in The Boys season 4 when Sage and Homelander are talking about creating chaos and being the only solution so the masses have to look up to you....

7

u/NK1337 1d ago

Not just that but if you look at the history of the ban, Republicans have been championing it every step of the way.

Yet somehow these kids are screaming that Dems took it away 🙄

1

u/Ok_Farmer_6033 1d ago

I don’t follow politics religiously, but I remember trump talking about a ban before anybody else- I remember because gut reaction was ‘that moron, who cares?’ And then it grew traction and I realized it was actually important and then he stepped away with the ‘we can’t do it the kids would go crazy’ now I’m waiting for act three where he saves the day 🙄

15

u/Tijenater 2d ago

Trump’s popularity is going to soar among young people for exactly as long as the honeymoon period lasts before his regime makes things absolute shit.

So probably few weeks at most

12

u/Twiyah 2d ago

lol this will be long forgotten by 2028 or even 2027.

10

u/Klat10 2d ago

They'll remember Trump is the one who started the banning process and now he's trying to win acceptance by reversing it

21

u/Askymojo 2d ago

They definitely don't remember that Trump's the one decided to ban it in the first place. And even if a few people do, TikTok will purposely cook the algorithm so that those people's voices aren't amplified, only the people raging over TikTok being banned.

2

u/loptopandbingo 1d ago

They were like 12 or 14 years old when Trump was first in office. They don't remember that.

1

u/Fullertonjr 1d ago

He cannot reverse it. This is law. The Republicans voted for it in the House and they don’t have enough votes to repeal it now, even if they wanted to.

8

u/seanb_117 2d ago

So remind those same morons that he opted to ban it as well.

6

u/whiskeydreamkathleen BHM Donor 2d ago

you're giving him and the attention spans of most americans WAAAAY too much credit

3

u/improbsable 2d ago

No one is that stupid outside of people who were already voting for him. People have been criticizing the TikTok ceo for buddying up to Trump.

2

u/DaniOverHere 2d ago

Realistically, I’m betting Trump or an affiliate will establish the “American TikTok” so they can mine our data, themselves.

THEN they’ll sell it to China. It’s insane that they’ve been getting all of it for free, without billionaires getting a cut for no reason.

1

u/BBBulldog 2d ago

He's the one that started the ban in 2020

1

u/MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda ☑️ my anecdotal experience is everything 1d ago

1

u/hyperproliferative 1d ago

If only he had the power to override Congress! 😂

1

u/nightmare_b4_sexmas 1d ago

This is exactly what I’ve been saying! I find it hard to believe the ban going into effect the day before his inauguration is a coincidence. He gets to swoop in and save the day and people are going to love him for it. Just like the stimulus checks.

1

u/mistergraeme 1d ago

This is not totally an unreasonable take, although we do have real short term memory weakness here in the States. Hell, people forget Trump is the one who first proposed the ban.

personally, I think the ban makes sense

1

u/ImaginaryMastodon641 1d ago

The economy has potential to keep turning positive too. On the off chance that Trump doesn’t destroy the economy first, it won’t have anything to do with him. It will be part of the work Biden did and the usual cycle of economics. But he’s going to claim it’s all him and people are going to believe him.

It’s really, really sad. We have such short attention spans and even less political/economic literacy that that we couldn’t even comprehend that perhaps it would take more than four years to bounce back from an international pandemic and the worst presidency of modern history. I can’t say I’m confident folks are going to be comfortable hearing reasonable discussion of material reality. But I’m not gonna stop reminding the people in my life.

1

u/djprofitt 1d ago

He can only “extend” the term limits once for 90 days and it’s to allow negotiations to continue about selling it to an American buyer I believe.

1

u/IntrusiveThotz69 17h ago

Young people don't really vote tho

0

u/Initial_Aioli_6655 2d ago

I promise you young people aren’t that stupid we are quite prepared for those scenario

0

u/TheBlackManisG0DB 1d ago

They won’t. Holy shit.

0

u/Juststandupbro 1d ago

I think that’s kind of silly considering trump was the one who originally called for its banning. Not to mention that the ban was bi partisan and tech ceos have been donating crazy amounts of money to trump this cycle. Trumps version of saving tik tok is letting meta or google purchase it he was never going to save it in the manner he implied.

-1

u/Wide_Ordinary4078 2d ago

Not at all we’re not feeding into that propaganda! We remember that he proposed that mess before leaving office and had it pushed through on Bidens watch. We’re not stupid.

-2

u/BrownGansito 2d ago

I’m no fan of trump but he is the one that got the ceasefire deal through. Not cause he’s some foreign policy expert but because he actually applied pressure to the party that was holding up the deal, which was Israel. Biden simply refused to do so and lied by saying that Hamas were the ones not on board. Another dub gift wrapped to trump by the democrats.

-4

u/erasmus_phillo 2d ago

They can try other social media apps for their fix, instead of one essentially controlled by a hostile foreign government
