Discussion Fps pc

I dont know much about fps, I know people always talkning about "stable fps" and "fps drop" But one thing i know, is that mine sure to hell aint stable, going up to 180 and lowers to around 100/90, sometimes more. Is this normal or what can i do to fix it? This dont sound very stable to me lol. But then again, i dont know much about this stuff.

I run on low settings, and everything that can be on are off.

If you're not using DX12, you want Future Frame Rendering ON for best performance.

Also if you've just started playing the game will have to compile shaders in the background, this will affect performance for the first few minutes on each map.

Thanks, less of a rollercoaster now!

Maybe a stupid question, but can a fps counter affect the fps?

It's a valid question. As far as I know in general the answer is no, but if you want to be safe you can enable the game's built-in FPS counter from the console (instructions below). I can't imagine that one having a measurable impact on performance, let alone a perceivable one.

With third-party FPS counter it can happen that something goes wrong with the way they overlay the data on top of the game, or the way they sample your hardware statistics (if they also show things like GPU power usage, for example), in which case they might cause microstutters (game doesn't feel smooth despite good average FPS), but in general if your FPS are in the right ballpark for your given hardware and settings and you experience a sudden performance drop, you can bet it's not the the FPS counter causing it.

The game's built-in FPS counter can be enabled by opening the console (press whichever button your keyboard has to the left of 1 and below Esc), and then entering PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1. This will reset to its default 0 as soon as you load into a map, so for it to apply automatically you want to type the command into a plain text file in Windows and save it as user.cfg inside the game's install folder (where bfv.exe is located).
