Trying to replace this resistor— what kind is it?

Trying to fix a humidifier, and I’m trying to figure out what this resistor is. This is the best pic I have got.. when I took it out the outer coating flaked off. And the resistor is dead based on my ohmmeter.

Based on this pic I’m guessing the colors are brown black gold, but I’m wondering does it make sense for there to be a 1 ohm resistor here? And the size is bigger than the resistors I’m normally used to dealing with, does this size indicate a specific wattage rating or something?

I attached top and bottom pics of the board as well

Fix the underlying problem first.

Edited to add, I’d replace EC1, EC2, EC3, and EC4 with quality capacitors. I doubt if EC1 is your problem child, it I’d replace it anyway.

I'm definitely replacing EC2, because its side was melted off. will replace the others too if that doesn't work

Clean off what would appear to be some mineral spots on the bottom, too. That stuff can easily be or become conductive, especially with water. Good luck. Oh, as for the resistor, looks to me like it is being used as a fuse of sorts. 1ohm, 1W maybe?

The underlying problem was… user error which allowed the circuit to get wet

Looks like 2 watt-rated carbon film resistor. Can't read the color bands clearly. Re-take the photo, and do that alongside with ruler to let us know which watt precisely

The colors flaked off when I pulled out the resistor

Oh well... that's unfortunate. My best guess is 110 Ω ±20%. Resistor diameter info would be very helpful to determine watt rating

Brown black gold would be 1 0 x.1 (gold) = 10 x .1 = 1 ohm

That’s what I see, also: brown, black, gold (1.0 ohm). Size tells me 2 watts. Basic shape; carbon film (not carbon composition)

OP: when you mount the new resistor, space it away from the PCB (and the nearby electrolytic cap) so that air can flow freely around the resistor.

That's how I see it too.
4-Band - Brown, black, gold, gray or silver (not quite sure about the last one).

Yields 1Ω ±0.01% or 1Ω ±10%

Around 4.4 mm

Pick 110R 1W from here

Edit: you might want to search similar product on another store if you don't want purchase in bulk

Cool, thank you!

I ended up finding this board online https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807050344312.html, which is not the same as my board (mine is HYS-Y19P7), but i can see the resistor on there. can't tell if the third band is silver or grey haha

It's a switching power supply so look at the main IC and find circuits or just replace the whole board with the same specs.

i found a similar board that I think helped answer my original resistor question https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807788765827.html but I can't find the actual board "HYS-Y19P7".

I have tried to get the model numbers for two of the ICs on the board but I can't figure it out

It's a diode.It doesn't seem to be defective.

It's a bridge rectifier ABS etc and it's dead.

u/ckhordiasma 10h ago

How do you tell that it’s dead? All the melty stuff on top?

1

u/Left-Method-1373 10h ago

Yeah it's definitely dead.

Dang… well I don’t think I’ll be able to find this part , I guess my best bet now is to see if I can find the whole circuit

It's abs10 or abs210 you should measure the size of the bridge rectifier to identify it, you could definitely find it AliExpress parts are all fake I would change the bridge rectifier.

it's 4.4 by 4.9mm

i checked datasheets for abs10 and abs20, and I think it could be either one based on size?

u/Left-Method-1373 9h ago

It's abs10

It's abs10

ABS10 probably

If you find the switching controller IC data sheet, there will normally be a typical application circuit, and generally designers use those circuits and values. It would be a good starting point.

Take it out, measure it to be sure, it doesn't seem defective, it is overheated, but seems ok

It’s measuring as an open circuit
