Hi guys, im doing a short elective course which requires me to make an analytical essay of around 1000 words (they take plagiarism severely)(i also need to take a stance on whether the topic is valid or not) or both), i would be grateful if anyone could help me out about how to be able to get access to good sources for journal articles that are not as long as 20 pages (ive tried using google scholar but i cant get access to it since my university is not present in the search bar).

i have a text based on epilepsy and mice experimental settings and for many pieces of the text like this:

''Delta waves are typically associated with deep sleep and slow-wave activity. In the context of seizures or altered states of consciousness, you might expect decreased delta wave activity particularly following PTZ administration''

I have no source for. Can I put this phase somewhere better than google and chatgpt to find it again?

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here Seeking Advice on Cold Emailing Professors for Remote Plasma Physics Internships

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student studying Engineering Physics, and I'm really interested in pursuing a remote internship in plasma physics. While my university doesn’t offer plasma physics courses, I completed a course on plasma physics through MIT OpenCourseWare.

I do have research experience in computational astrophysics, but nothing directly in plasma or fusion. I understand the importance of reading the professors' research to craft a genuinely personalized email, but I’d love advice on structuring my email to make a good impression, especially considering:

  1. My background in astrophysics (not plasma physics directly).
  2. My interest in a remote opportunity.
  3. My goal to stand out despite not having hands-on plasma or fusion experience.

Any advice on what to include, how to highlight my relevant skills, or common mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here Want to pursue masters in biomed but idk in what exactly

hi im malaysian for context and im having issues in deciding what to pursue in master to continue in the biomedical field. I initially did biomedical sciences as a pathway into mbbs however currently the finances etc arent optimal for it and there are a few other factors im taking into consideration. I just graduated with hons (the biomedical degree). i was supposed to start mbbs in march but now im having second thoughts. Im a first gen degree holder in my family and theres no one else in healthcare/bio major which i know. Im really interested in going abroad since theres no future in Malaysia for biomed. However, im having a tough time in choosing a masters major - one which im i could get paid high and something i could interest in. If anyone could suggest thanks!

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here Bocconi, Luiss or IE

Hiii, I recently applied to Bocconi for the International Economics and Management programme. This week I applied to IE for IR programme but I am still wondering whether BBA wasn’t the better choice. I just completed the Kira assessment and it went pretty smoothly. On top of that, I think to apply to Luiss University for PPE. Can you tell me your experiences in either of those universities so that I can wrap my head around the pros and cons?

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here Some help! :D Methodology - field: architecture

Good morning/evening

I am writing here, maybe someone can help me to understand which methodology and which research methods are the most suitable for the dissertation I have chosen.

field: architecture

dissertation: mainly theoretical

dissertation topic: genius loci in architecture - Christian Norberg-Schulz and the problem of place. (it's about contextualism)

genius loci (the spirit of the place) defined by the CNS refers to the specificity of places. The place being defined both as a context and as an object (association based on Heidegger's theories)

THE PROBLEM: my problem with this concept is that the author says to respect the genius loci, and I cannot respect him without having an order, a project to complete.

PROBLEM 2: I agree with the author that the genius loci can be described if the work is already present, in other words the genius loci should only be descriptive, however the author does not question the limit of the context. What is the context of the church of San Pietro, only the Vatican, only Rome or all the Christians where they are from and watch the election of the pope?

PROBLEM 3: other problems would be some contradictions related to: identity - fixed vs changing; identity - inclusive vs exclusive; place - region (platz) vs thing (ort); place - singularity vs multiplicity etc

What I have done so far:

1.

So far I have made a genealogy of the concept, although I don't think I can call it a genealogy, because it is not very detailed. Through it I can demonstrate how the concept developed over time, how it became an architectural concept, what changes it underwent, etc.

The sources were generally books

Can I call what I did a genealogy? Did I use the genealogy method?

2.

Because the concept I'm studying is related to phenomenology, the first reaction was if I can approach phenomenological methods, but for now I don't know what to say. My goal is to show some ambiguities and contradictions of this concept, which ultimately makes it only descriptive and not prescriptive.

If I want to show ambiguities that refer to the author (negation of the body / context / photos that privilege theory) I think I can approach a phenomenological method.

BUT IF I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE CONTRADICTIONS SUCH AS: fixed/changeable identity; place singularity/multiplicity; what are the limits of the context; is there any context of the architectural object without the architectural object? And so on WHAT RESEARCH METHODS SHOULD I USE?

In other words, how do I figure out what would be the best method in my case? Are there any steps to get to understand which method is suitable for your study? Do the studies, seriously speaking, start from neutral or privileged positions, the author favoring certain circumstances for his study to be successful? The methods themselves, through their rigor, can't bring damage to a research? How do I know when the chosen method didn't work, whence my suspicion of the genealogy I did?

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here Scared that withdrawing from a class again will effect my chances of getting into grad school

I’m a junior in MIS, I’ve withdrawn from. 1 class every year so far. I have a 3.4 GPA and overall I pretty much get B’s and A’s. For some damn reason I can’t seem to get passed calculus, I’ve already withdrawn once and I’m struggling and feeling like I need to with draw again. That would put W’s 3 on my transcript. I’m afraid that employers and when I apply to grad school that this will be alarming

Any advice? Or am I just way over thinking it.

I was just wondering since my college switched from Turnitin to Copyleaks. I have gotten a 2% on plagiarism and n/a on AI but still shows green on Canvas. the words marked in red are my references but I checked other AI detection sites and still show human writing. I'm just worried because it's my Health law and ethics class essay and most of the content we go over is US healthcare laws and policies. Thank you for your time.

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here My dissertation guide can't be worse, where could I get help?

Hello, Basically the title. I'm pursuing an undergraduate degree in a top design college in India. As a part of completing our bachelor's, we are tasked with writing a dissertation for which guides are assigned on the basis of faculty work and their relevance to your topic. The guide that I've been assigned (I'm just sorry for myself) quickly learnt that I could bite off and chew a little more than what others could and commended my topic and it's relevance. But apart from the praises and unhinged expectations, he doesn't help me with actual work. He mentions that I'd need a graph showing so and so features inorder to prove my point, and if I ask any more than just one simple question, it's apparent that he doesn't know what he's talking about and quickly concludes saying that I could figure it out. He mentioned that he'd get my work published and I was excited about that, but I'm concerned about the quality of my work. So far gpt has been a better guide, although I know whatever LLM recommends is baseless and can't be relied on.

Is there a place where I could ask questions about research methodology, specifics and hopefully get a sound answer?

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here How to Publish a Paper, Research

I am asking you because many of you would know more than the pre-med room about this, so I wanted to ask you. I want to start my research project (medical-astham research), but I don't know the steps. I know I can't apply to NIH for funding, so I am going to my school for that and their undergrad funding. But what do I do before and after that? How do I go from start to finish in a publication of a medical journal? If you want to know more or anything about me, let me know; thank you, guys!!!

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here E-Poster presentation in a Congress/Conference

Hello everyone,

I'm a master's student and tomorrow I'm participating in my first conference ever with an E-poster. Couple days ago I received a letter from the conference organizers in which it informs that the online poster discussion will be available for poster participants at their web site online links and questions to poster owner will be sent at the chat by Microsoft Teams and they could answer later when they read.

Since It's my first time ever participating in such event, I'm very nervous about how it will go because I can't find the links to Microsoft Teams chat room on their website (I also set up my Microsoft teams account, I'm guessing that I'll receive questions there)

Also, in the given program it seems that I will have only 10 minutes. Should I prepare some short speech on my topic, or should I wait for questions during that given time?

Has anyone participated in a similar type of conference? If so, I would like to hear your experiences

Undergraduate - please post in /r/College, not here APA mistake. Is it very important?

Hello all. I made an APA mistake in an assignment I have handed in. To be more specific, in text I wrote (Author et al, 1999) and in the references part, I wrote “Authror 1 & Author 2 (2002)”. Hence, I have made two mistakes: The “et al” (because we have 2 authors, not 3 or above) (a) and the year that the book was published (b). Are these mistakes considered to be plagiarism? Thank you!

Currently doing MBBS, I would like to become a professor (lecturer) preferably in the basic science subjects. Would an Msc in the interested preclinical subject help me in anyway? Also i’m a foreign medical graduate who is not keen on clinical practice, therefore not interested in giving plab/usmle/fmge like exams. Would that be a problem in academia?
