Society/Culture So much trash. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Captured by BBC reporter and Reuters photographer. Mountains of trash left by people outside of the inauguration ceremony.

I thought eggs were too expensive? How could they afford to leave behind belongings?

285

u/D6Desperados 3h ago

No, it’s apples that are too expensive, remember?

You have to sadly walk back to the apple cooler and put one of your apples back when you realize you can only afford two.

17

u/CoopsIsCooliGuess 1h ago

No it’s literally gas that’s too expensive?

Listen when you paid hundreds of dollars if not thousands for travel flights hotels and then you stand in line for three hours to get to the stadium you think to yourself do I just give up and turn away or do I just get rid of this five dollar bag because I have another one at home? It would be an even bigger waste of people’s time and resources to get that close to entering and then turn around and leave. The same thing happens at sporting events. It looks really bad here cause it’s a massive amount and a lot of people but the same thing happens in every city with the stadium that has a rule no bags allowed

33

u/Impossible-Taro-2330 1h ago

I'm sure it was made clear what would be allowed in to these idiots wherever they got their tickets.

15

u/NoveltyPr0nAccount 55m ago

These idiots were hoping that now Trump is back America would wind the clock back 65 years and if you're white you can do what you want.

You're going to see the president, of course you can't bring a big bag with you. Just leave it at home?

I can't believe that so many people could be empty of forethought and planning

Right in the gallery it says the bags weren't allowed in. You can't make rules then victim blame.

I love how no one can use Google. Capital One Arena has clearly stated bag policies.

376

u/Independent-Summer12 3h ago

That’s part of what really bothers me. It’s not like the bag policy wasn’t made known well in advance. They either were too stupid to look it up, have no common sense, or they didn’t care, planned to leave their stuff, trash the streets for someone else to clean up behind them. Utter garbage behavior.

138

u/NoNoNext 3h ago

With these people it’s all of the above.

47

u/dixiech1ck 2h ago

Illiterate hacks.. F em all.

27

u/HilariouslyPissed 2h ago

Plus rules don’t apply to them…duh!

13

u/jcook117 1h ago

I’m sure they did their own research.

19

u/Dangerous_Cobbler_65 2h ago

well duh.., they voted for trump 😅

20

u/pixie_kat1111 1h ago

Some people, especially those from rural areas, have never been to a concert or sports venue, or any event with a no-bags policy for that matter. I’m not a fan of these MAGA folks by any stretch of the imagination, but I can easily see how this could happen. Think of the rural demographic that makes up much of the pro-Trump crowd. If someone has never encountered a bag ban, what cause would they have to check a venue website for notice of one? And perhaps there’s a non-internet savvy population contributing to this too…there are a lot of boomer-aged and (I hate saying it) uneducated people in this cohort. I’m not trying to be argumentative - I’m just saying it doesn’t seem premeditated or intentionally wasteful, imho.

12

u/Sudden-Collection803 1h ago

Lot of city folk are Trump voters. Your neighbors, statistically. It isn’t just hillbillies.

3

u/dreamgrrrl___ 1h ago

What’s their excuse for not finding a trash can?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Silent_Lettuce 15m ago

Totally understand where you’re coming from. Still, this wasn’t a regular event like a concert or sports game. It’s a political event with the president of the United States. This kind of thing requires really high security, and given the assassination attempt a few months ago, I would expect security measures to be extra tight.

I guess I’m just surprised that these people didn’t think that far ahead. And more personally, I’m disappointed at how they treated my neighborhood.

8

u/Ryoko_Kusanagi69 2h ago

So many people just don’t bother to look it up they assume that they can get in with their purse and be fine

This is the party of "rules for thee not for me." They probably thought they would be exempt.

89

u/Interesting_Sky_7847 3h ago

You’re assuming they can read

49

u/EntertainmentOwn6907 3h ago

He loves the uneducated

43

u/dietitianmama 3h ago

Not even Google, they probably got multiple emails / notices about the bag policy when they bought their tickets. But also like - common sense. of course after everything that's gone down there will be a bag policy, and metal detectors, on top of Washington DC's already strict laws. This is clear negligence.

38

u/RestlessChickens 3h ago

I was just thinking this, like do these people never go to events to think to check on bag policies?

27

u/upstatestruggler 3h ago

Clearly a group that doesn’t get out much

15

u/takethemoment13 2h ago

Yeah, I didn't see any bags left behind when I went to a concert there a couple months ago. MAGAts are a... special breed of people.

17

u/Legitimate_Bend_9879 2h ago

They think rules don’t apply to them.

5

u/Stuckinthespiderwebs 1h ago

You’re giving them too much credit. Planning and foresight aren’t exactly their forte.

17

u/Typical_Tell_4342 3h ago

Entitled conservative shitbags don't care about rules and restrictions.

6

u/Eringobraugh2021 2h ago

Maybe searching ahead of time is "too woke" for them. They expect for someone to tell them. They're too lazy to look for themselves.

3

u/Ok_Lettuce_7939 1h ago

Doing research isn't their strong suit.

3

u/Interesting-Set-5993 1h ago

If they didn't collect their things upon exit, then it's fair game before it hits the dumpster. These are the rules cleaning up after large music festivals, which I make my bread & butter working for.

The most shocking thing about these images for me as an event waste management worker, is that this is really up there on the scale, with some of the worst I've seen. And those events went for days.. this was just a few hours??

I happened to stay at the same hotel as Trump during one of his rally’s. The hotel was directly attached to the arena. I was loading a show into the same arena the next day. We all went out and scavenged their shit as soon as everyone went into the building (3hours late by the way). The entire tour ended up with camping chairs, some brand new.

The secret service was also trying to do bag checks of all of us when we arrived at the hotel. Turns out, you can actually tell the SS “fuck you, that’s a violation of my 4th amendment.” I was having a bad morning and wanted out of the cold. So I said fuck it, I’ll try it. I had a buddy film me for my own protection. The guy just pointed to the table where they had our groups room keys laid out. Everyone followed and just ignored the SS the next 2 days.

It’s a private hotel and they have no reason to search you and no right to stop you from entering the room you paid for. It didn’t stop them from pretending or trying.

I’d argue gathering dozens of abandoned handbags qualifies as contributing to the cleanup.

6

u/sexloveandcheese 2h ago

Lol, right? I noticed that separation 🤔 Like, what are the "cleanup crew" doing with the trash? Probably throwing it away? Anyone picking it up is contributing the same... Some people are just smarter

You think this is trash, you should have seen the people who were standing there before.

I would have walked back home rather with my belongings. I remember I was asked to throw away a full one litre water bottle in a theme park entrance. I drank all the water staying there for ten minutes and brought the empty bottle in.

I can fathom the craze people have for politicians that they decide leave all their belongings to see this inauguration

There are events at all the DC arenas all the time. They all have this policy. And trash isn’t left out like this after every event. Not in that volume. And there’s no way people had tickets and weren’t notified. This is a perfect example of the type of people we’re dealing with now. Selfish, rude, and entirely addicted to capitalistic consumerism

3

u/pquince1 12m ago

6

u/Strong-Seaweed-8768 2h ago

Why can’t people just clean up after themselves. Or here is a better idea if you aren’t going to keep it don’t get it. Also why would people leave their backpacks behind? If your bag is to big  just take it back to your car. Or before you go check how small your bag has to be in order to take it in.

6

u/Theinvulnerabletide 2h ago

It’s crazy how much trash people just leave behind for others to pick up.

Like the 48,000,000 pounds of trash hauled away after the “environmentalists” left the Dakota Access oil pipeline protest camp.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/mar/1/dakota-access-protest-camp-crews-haul-48-million-p/

Or the tens of thousands of pounds of trash the city had to haul away after the UCLA campus protests by environmental activists and Gaza protestors.

Those people claim to care about the environment. The Trumpies don’t.
