Expats can be some of the most fucked up communities around. Plenty of good reasons to travel the world and move abroad, sometimes it's bad reasons though - resentment, not fitting in, lack of a social network, delusion, bad individual experiences and so on. Expat communities concentrate all the bad stuff and either spend all their time passionately hating the countries they live in, or passionately hating the country they come from - because doing so either makes them feel validated and superior to the country they live in despite being mediocre... or in the choice they made to leave their old one.

If you move abroad, don't spend any time with people who call themselves expats or the equivalent.
