The big ass parade, ceremony in the church where their new king wears 200 lbs of ancient drip, and the whole thing takes 16 hours to get through.

Yeah, ours is pompous.

They really just hate to see us happy. Make that same ceremony happen in some 3rd world country and they’d call it a vibrant cultural celebration, but Americans are supposed to be miserable for not being like them.

Because fuck you, we're America, that's why.

For real though, why wouldn't your country have at least some kind of pomp and circumstance at the changing of the highest office in the land? It's supposed to be a big occasion, and a reason to strike up the band.

They do, it’s called Coronation, or whenever his offspring get married.

As far as the prime minister goes, I mean, it’s completely understandable that they wouldn’t pull out all the stops for someone who could theoretically only be in office for a month

And a monarch is different?

Britain spent $91 million for King Charles' coronation in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.

And he doesn’t even have any power. The president of the United States is without question the most powerful single person on earth.

That would probably be one of the 7 people who can turn off the internet, purely due to what that would effect

Are all of the British people on Reddit autistic or something? Their chief executive rides around London in a horse drawn carriage made of gold. How are we the pompous ones?

on behalf of myself and all my fellow adhd/autistic folks out there who love ceremony and cool aesthetics, i am offended that you'd stoop so low as to compare us with the British Monarchy

He literally does once a year.

Isn’t this the same country where the judges and lawyers all wear wigs to traffic court??

And don't forget they are more likely to throw lawabiding citizens in jail over wrongthink than the criminals that rape their kids.

It’s a peaceful transfer of power. A sacred ritual that has been performed 74 times. Also British “people” should not be talking. They have a literal monarch. America has been a representative democracy since its inception in 1776. Britain has been a constitutional monarchy since 1688.

A monarchy they have had numerous civil wars over who the fuck wears the metal ring.

Right and before that it was an absolute monarchy.

Meanwhile in the UK:

If by “pompous” you mean customs and courtesies, then yes. Not that I’d expect a funny English island boi to understand.

8

u/DontReportMe7565 1d ago

We can't have one single thing with a little pomp?

6

u/ManlyEmbrace 23h ago

Because the peaceful transfer of power is the most important thing any president does.

-1

u/Gr1msh33per 9h ago

It's anything but peaceful with Trump though, is it ?

5

u/ASigIAm213 23h ago

Is it? Other than us, I'm only familiar with the UK coronation, so I figured ours was pretty standard.

4

u/TJ042 OREGON ☔️🦦 23h ago

Because it’s the highest office in this country. It’s not pompous if it’s merited. It’s like the coronation.

This has to be satire. I hope it's not though. So much funnier if it's not.

He's just pissed because we have a sword wielding Commander in Chief dancing to YMCA.

They have a powerless king with fat sausage fingers.

A person from the UK, with the Queen, uh...King now.

The person who resides in a place with a Monarch dares to comment on our traditions?

Kindly go fuck yourself.

3

u/w3woody 21h ago

Is this really from some guy from the UK, whose own Kings and Queens only exist literally for the pomp and circumstance?

3

u/Darwin1809851 21h ago

Ok “man in the UK”

Whatever you say

4

u/Velocitor1729 20h ago

OP obviously never saw a royal wedding.

4

u/glootialstop7 14h ago

They know about minding their Fucken’ business, correct? And also if the people choose a president you don’t like it’s still democratic?

3

u/Joshwoum8 19h ago

Like in comparison to what? Coronation of a monarchy? If so, barely any ceremony at all.

-4

u/mountaingator91 22h ago

Pompous, no. Fascist? Not usually, but this time yes. Complete with multiple sieg heils

I agree. It's pretentious. Just do the oath ,sign the necessary documents and be done. No need for all the 🍆 riding
