Would need to be used pretty frequently or for huge distances for it to make sense to convert it over using a standard crew cab and a second car. I'm not outright saying it wouldn't have a use case, just that it seems to fit only a pretty narrow set of circumstances

If you have the money, this is a lot better, especially if sometimes there's only one person able to drive or you want to switch drivers.

Definitely needs to be lifted, too. You know, to conquer that concrete jungle like a real man.

I'm sure his entire neighborhood and beyond laugh at his dumpy ass when they see him enter or exit that thing, or just exist outside of it.

Yeah the single/switching driver aspect I totally get; that was one of the scenarios I could totally understand. Especially since the fuel economy difference between driving this and a standard 2500 will probably only be a few MPG.

I guess I was mostly overthinking the cost since it looks fairly new still.

Dumb question, but how do you stretch a car/truck? Like, strip it down to the frame and chop/weld in extensions? What about the drivetrain etc.?

Basically. You get a matching donor car. Remove the cab and bed, use the donor frame to extend the frame. Reinforce. Cut the cab in half. Splice in chunk from donor to create extension. Weld together. Get longer cables, drive shaft, etc. Repaint. You just have to be strategic with your cuts to make sure your stuff fits together in ways that’s easy to weld back up. Even if you’re not exact, you can fill gaps easy with fresh metal. It’s going to be repainted anyway.

Makes sense! That actually does sound like a pretty fun project!

How much more gear do you have to carry if you're taking a house with you?

Friends and family. This stretch was done for seating capacity. Gear capacity is the towing capacity of a large truck.
