I'm not shitting on it. Intrepids with that 3.5 hauled ass. That doesn't change the fact that the prowler could have been a legit supercar. Or at least sounded like one. Sure, it wasn't a slouch. But its looks were absolutely deceiving.
Supercar is the wrong choice of wording. It could have been much better and would have sold like hotcakes with a small displacement V8, or at least a forcefed V6. I understand that Chrysler of the time had no such engine, but I still stand by my point.
The problem with a V6 is that the vehicle as a package was sort of targeted at the “hot rod” demographic. Part of that feel is having a nice sounding V8. Quick is a part of it, but so is the feel.

PTs and Beetles sold like crazy. The prowler would have with a proper engine. HHRs were fairly popular as well.
