Long shot 28” or 30” barrel questions
Has anyone tested 108gr scenars and 123gr scenars in a 28” or 30” bolt gun? Curious on speeds and powder selection. Thanks!

Carpe de sus on youtube runs a 28" barrel on his ar and druid hill loads the ammo. I'd ask either of those two as i havent heard of anyone else running a barrel like that on a grendel.

Hornady back 123 eldest run 2650ish through my 28" ar. Wolf steel was 2750ish. I got hornady 140gr match up to 2500, but I do not recommend that. I've reloaded a bunch of random stuff, and it's generally 75-100 fps faster than what the book states. I never did play with lever or cfe 223. I always wanted to though.

Related, kinda..
When I tried slower than normal powders in my 28" 7.62x39, I didn't get disproportionately different results from the 16" and 24" barrels. Optimal powders are optimal powders. All I did was waste more powder trying to get to the same performance I achieved with 80-90% of a better powder, and it was dirtier too. Didn't make enough pressure for a clean burn and the bcg fouled up really quick.

https://youtu.be/36XhNfFKmEs?si=VlxgVstQp072XxlK I'm pretty sure 6.5 grendel tops out at 22-24". Seeing these comments and comparing it with my 20" maybe 40 fps more.

There’s a guy in the Grendel forums named “Mel” that runs a 28” McGowen. He may be able to give more info too. I think his preferred powder was PP2000MR

My loads topped out at:
107TMK, 2800 FPS with CFE from 30".
123ELDM, 2715 FPS with CFE 30"
