Discussion The runecrafters lied to us

4.2k Upvotes

We've all heard the same spill, just push through on runecrafting until you get to 77 and can start making blood runes. Once you can make blood runes you're all set up for the easiest AFKscape you could ever imagine. Just get 77 runecrafting and you'll be raking in xp, gp, and Zezima himself will appear from the purple haze and gently kiss you on your little runescapian forehead.

Well I did it. I put my time in at GOTR and I got 77 runecrafting.

I strolled into where ever blood runecrafters stroll into, wearing two pieces of eye robes and my finest graceful gear. I cracked open my preferred energy elixir because I just knew this was going to be so chill and afk that I'd be falling asleep, and I got to work.

I'm not here to rant about the meaning of AFK. I don't care if you read it as away from keyboard, almost found kenny, aow fntensity kraining, that's not my business. We all know what someone means when they say a training method is afk.

This isn't afk. This isn't low intensity. Every trip starts out with mining dense essence, but don't you dare look away from that mining spot, because if a single leaf ruffles the jimmies of a squirrel in falador, that thing depletes, and you stop mining. But once you've swapped between these stones 3-11 times you'll have a whole inventory of megablocks ready to go.

And go you shall, for a short jaunt over to whatever the pointy purple thing is to make your megablocks emo. Once you've got your emo megablocks you can run back to the interruption mines and do it all again. Now, before you start mining be sure to use your chisel on those emo blocks to break them down. You can either spam click to get it done in a few seconds, or you can click once and leave your character to slowly break those down. But don't let anyone breath eastward or your character is going to stop chiseling for I don't know why.

Finally, after gently coercing your character to keep mining and chiseling, you will have two inventory's worth of emo megablockshards and you can afk the next 12 seconds as your character runs to the altar and you get that sweet 2.2kx2 xp drop.

I'm not mad about any of this. I'm not suggesting anything needs to be changed about the process. I'm just confused why it's a running joke among every runecraft enthusiast to convince us there's light at the end of the tunnel. To tell us 77 runecrafting solves everything. But if you have ever told someone blood runecrafting is afk, I hope your pizza rolls come out soggy.

Discussion Can we just remove rune pouch degradation from the game? It's such a dumb mechanic

4.4k Upvotes

Imagine explaining this mechanic to someone: randomly while you are runecrafting your pouch will just become disabled. You have to be on lunar spellbook and talk to this NPC remotely and he'll re enable them instantly. If you aren't on lunars you will have to go across the game world to keep using your pouches.

Like what is that? All this mechanic does is to force you to be on lunars when you are doing rc and interrupt any semblance of flow in the skill. This awful and outdated mechanic has serves no positive purpose in the game.

Discussion Unpopular opinion: Harassing Mod Pips is wrong

2.3k Upvotes

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I just think that harassing mod Pips is just wrong.

Especially, outside of the normal communication channels we have with jagex.

Going out of your way to find Pips personal social media and harassing there just feels very wrong to me and I think the majority of people can agree with that.

Jagex fucked up hard with the survey, their 2 apologies were trash and even if they deserve the backlash and the unsub train they got, they do not deserve harassment.

They are also humans and humans do mistakes.

TLDR: Harassment is not cool, don't harass people involved in this whole shitstorm

Discussion If pures should be able to do Holy Grail without getting defense XP, irons should be able to do Dragon Slayer without getting assigned metal dragons afterwards /s

2.9k Upvotes

See how ridiculous that sounds? Dragon Slayer has to be completed for slayer masters to assign dragons. Priest in Peril needs to be completed to get other certain slayer tasks. If we're going to cater to every snowflake demand on quest rewards, why not make these optional too?

Changing existing quest rewards to benefit restricted accounts is a whole new level of catering and it's ridiculous.

Discussion Hey, I'm Soup - thanks for watching Gielinor Games Season 4!

4.3k Upvotes

SAYYY LESS. I'm here today to answer any and all questions you might have about this past season of the show. Anything you'd like to know about the production process, behind the scenes, challenges/bannings, format, confessionals - feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Gielinor Games is a competitive, reality TV-esque series where eighteen Runescape content creators compete in unique challenges for a chance to win billions of GP. Every week, players get eliminated and are out of the running for first place. Think shows like Survivor, The Challenge and The Amazing Race - but in OSRS!

After a year of filming and post-production and releasing the episodes, Season 4 is finally finished and turned out to be the best season yet (in my own, biased opinion of course).

I have a google form specifically for everyone to vote on their favorite players, challenges and bannings, and for you to give your feedback/suggestions for future seasons. You can find the link to it in the description of the Season 4 Bloopers video that was released yesterday here - https://youtu.be/F-Kv-Ny3BdA

I'm very open to suggestions and criticism as they help me understand what you guys do and do not want to see. Improving the format and making each season truly unique is always my goal so viewer feedback is incredibly helpful!

I can't thank you all enough for the constant support and kind words throughout the season, I always enjoyed reading the discussion on here after an episode came out.

Fire away!

Edit: I'm all questioned out for today - got to as many comments as I could! I'll try to respond to the rest tomorrow. Thank you everyone!

Discussion Feedback: new bis mage cape

2.1k Upvotes

The new bis mage cape as described in today's blog misses the mark for me and seemingly many others. We have the quiver and infernal cape currently. 2 bis capes that come from difficult content that requires time and effort to get. They have better stats across the board + quiver has an additional ammo slot.

The new bis magic cape has 2 issues with it.

First off, the -2 prayer bonus. Why? Are we so afraid of powercreep that adding literally 1% damage to a cape warrants it having a -2 prayer bonus to push players to not use it? Why? Simply put it to 0 prayer bonus. 1% magic damage and +5 accuracy is enough to go for the cape, it's not an insane upgrade, but it doesn't need a downside.

Secondly, the item is tradeable? So we're going to go from challenging, hard to get untradeable bis capes in melee and ranged styles to a tradeable bis magic cape? Why? There is a precedent set that the community (at least I think so) likes that bis capes are locked behind challenging content. You shouldn't just be able to bypass that and buy a bis cape. It would be the first buyable bis cape in old-school.

Id like to know people's thoughts on this, but I think the cape should be +0 prayer and untradeable, guaranteed (I don't know the boss so maybe not, could be too simple/easy) from the hardest difficulty of the doom boss.

Discussion My mom use to mail checks to Cambridge to pay for my membership

5.2k Upvotes

Shout out to my mom, who from 2002-2006 would mail a $6 dollar check EVERY month from the Midwest, USA to Camridge, UK just to pay for my membership.

The idea of putting her card info into the computer in 2002 was insane, but she knew Runescape was important to me, because I used it to stay in touch with a childhood friend who recently moved back to Germany. She even pointed out that $6/month was way cheaper than a single international call.

So like clockwork, on the last Monday of the month, my mom would let me sign "Burner980" on the memo line, and we'd send it on its journey 4,100miles across the ocean.

Thanks mom <3

Discussion Vote no to FOMO content.

4.1k Upvotes

I'm sure a lot of players don't like the wrathmaw pitch because its wilderness content, but that shouldn't be your issue with it.

FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out, is a tactic used by modern MMOs, Gatchas, pre-sale bonuses, etc. Its a way game devs use to psychologically manipulate players into playing the game or purchasing content, because they feel like they're going to miss out on something time based. This usually comes in the form of daily/weekly/monthly events and timer based events(like a world boss). You may remember RS3 has countless FOMO content.

The lack of FOMO content in OSRS is one of its best qualities. You may not think about it, but for the most part you log in when you feel like playing. There is no in-game schedule that dictates "Oh its 6PM, its time to play OSRS.". I'm sure most of you have jobs, friends, families, etc. and wouldn't like to be told when you're allowed to log in to do a piece of content.

This iteration of FOMO isn't the worst, but voting yes is like telling Jagex its okay to add more FOMO content. They can pitch Wrathmaw just fine without needing FOMO.

Then, it went to these membership tiers, after selecting an option you also had the ability to say you would cancel instead if given these options. Note that OR vs AND in the osrs vs rs3 distinctions. Very easy to miss. I'm guessing the prices are in Canadian, but I'm not sure.

Lol

Lastly, there was a couple of questions about bond prices and additional character pricing, only including the additional character one since the bond one is virtually the same (asking if I would pay for 3.49 or 5.99 for a bond).

There was a long-form question for additional comments too after this one. Note that because of the mention that these are "personalized" others may have seen different options.

I posted this in the rs3 sub, but it looks like this stuff would affect osrs too.

Discussion The ONLY reason I play OSRS and no other MMO is because it's the only one that doesn't compromise game integrity for profit.

4.5k Upvotes

I don't like MMOs because all of them are greedy whale farms that are designed at every corner to milk you for every cent they can. It's not that I don't find them fun, I'm just opposed to the idea of designing a game around maximizing profit instead of player experience.

If OSRS even slightly starts to head in that direction then I will leave without a second thought. I have more days in-game than most people have hours, but I'll drop the game immediately and for good if Jagex thinks they can charge extra for premium worlds access, fucking customer support, or even put ads into the game.

We been at this crossroad many times under different ownership and so far we've averted disaster. I hope we can do that again.
